Salling
Founded in 1906Salling Group’s history spans more than 100 years. Over the years, the company has undergone significant development, and what began as a small retail store in Aarhus is now an international retail group.
In 1906, Ferdinand Salling opened his retail store in Aarhus. The store gradually grew, and in 1948, the first section of Salling Department Store opened. After Ferdinand’s death in 1953, his son Herman Salling took over the business and began modernizing and expanding Salling Department Stores.
Like his father, Herman was an entrepreneur, and in 1960, he established Jysk Supermarked to realize his plans to build chains of supermarkets and department stores. In 1960, he founded Denmark’s first supermarket, føtex, and in the following years, the business grew and laid the foundation for Salling Group.
